What we look at
Face
Breakouts and acne
Spots, blackheads and clogged pores, often around the chin, forehead and nose. A gentle cleanser, salicylic acid or niacinamide, a light oil-free moisturiser and daily SPF. Avoid scrubbing and picking.
Dark spots and uneven tone
Brown marks left by spots or sun, patches on cheeks and upper lip, a tone that looks uneven. Daily SPF50, then vitamin C, niacinamide, alpha arbutin or tranexamic acid. Retinol helps once skin is used to actives.
Dryness and dehydration
Skin feels tight after washing, looks dull, flakes around the nose, and makeup clings to dry patches. A cream cleanser, hyaluronic acid on damp skin, a moisturiser with ceramides, and SPF. Keep showers warm, not hot.
Oily skin and large pores
Shine by midday, pores that look bigger on the nose and cheeks, makeup sliding off. Niacinamide and salicylic acid, a gel moisturiser (oily skin still needs one) and a light, non-greasy sunscreen.
Fine lines and firmness
Lines around the eyes and mouth, skin that feels less bouncy, a tired look. Daily SPF, retinol or retinal at night (start slowly), peptides, and a rich moisturiser.
Dullness
Skin looks flat and tired, with no light reflecting off it. Gentle exfoliation two or three times a week, vitamin C in the morning, hydration, and SPF.
Hair & scalp
Hair fall and thinning
More hair in the shower and brush, a wider parting, less volume. A gentle shampoo, a scalp serum with caffeine or similar actives, and less heat and tight styling. See a doctor if it is sudden or patchy.
Dry, frizzy or damaged hair
Rough ends, split ends, frizz in humidity, hair that snaps easily. A conditioner every wash, a weekly mask, heat protection, and a leave-in or light oil on the ends.
Dandruff and itchy scalp
White or yellow flakes, an itchy or tight scalp. A scalp-focused shampoo two or three times a week, rinse well after the gym, and avoid heavy oils on the scalp.
Oily scalp
Roots look greasy a day after washing, hair falls flat. A balancing shampoo, conditioner only on the ends, and a light scalp treatment.
Dull hair
Hair looks flat, with little shine or movement. A conditioner and weekly mask, a few drops of hair serum or oil, and a cool rinse at the end.
Lips
Dry and chapped lips
Peeling, small cracks, lips that feel tight. A rich balm through the day, an overnight lip mask, SPF on lips outdoors, and plenty of water.
Dark or uneven lips
Darker patches, a darker lip line or lips darker than you would like. Daily lip SPF, gentle exfoliation once a week, and a nourishing balm.
Dull lips and fine lines
Lips look tired, vertical lines show more. A plumping lip oil or balm, overnight mask, and SPF.
Body
Dry or rough skin
Flaky shins and arms, skin that feels tight after showers, ashy look. A gentle body wash, a lotion or cream with ceramides or urea straight after showering, and warm rather than hot water.
Small rough bumps
Tiny bumps on the backs of arms or thighs, skin that feels like sandpaper. A lotion with urea, lactic acid or salicylic acid, used daily. Do not scrub hard.
Dark patches
Darker underarms, knees, elbows or inner thighs, uneven tone. Gentle exfoliation, a brightening body lotion with niacinamide or similar, SPF on exposed areas, and less friction.
Sweat and odour
Heavy sweating in the heat, odour by the end of the day. An antiperspirant applied at night on dry skin, breathable fabrics, and showering after the gym.
Firmness and stretch marks
Skin that feels looser, fine stretch marks on hips, thighs or stomach. A firming lotion massaged in daily, hydration, and patience. New stretch marks respond best.
